AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program that emphasizes college and career readiness for students in every stage of their academic career. Stratford STEM Middle's AVID program directed by our AVID Site Coordinator, Dr. Robynn Lemon.
AVID emphasizes the following qualities in students:
- Relational Capacity: Building strong relationships with peers, teachers and mentors.
- Organization and Goal Setting: Creating an action plan for academic success and career exploration.
- Motivational Support: Encouraging self-reflection, perseverance and personal responsibility.
- Critical Thinking and Inquiry: Engaging in self-directed learning and thoughtful exploration of career possibilities.
All Eighth Grade AVID students will participate in a Capstone project, College and Career Readiness for Tennessee Students that will guide them through a comprehensive exploration of their future educational and career goals.
The Capstone integrates both the Tennessee State Standards on College and Career Readiness and the AVID College and Career Readiness standards. The project will also focus on relational capacity and how students can effectively develop the necessary skills to thrive in high school, college and beyond.
Students will use WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) strategies and the CPR Method (Care, Purpose and Respect) to create a detailed plan that will showcase their readiness for future opportunities. Motivational quotes and research-based practices will be integrated into each task to inspire students and drive engagement.
This capstone project will emphasize MNPS' motto, "Every Student Known," ensuring that every student's individual goals, strengths and aspirations are recognized and supported throughout their journey.
